The People of Mount Kilimanjaro, two main tribes live around the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro’s slopes, which are Maasai people on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and the rest of other bigger places covered by the Chaga people, the Chaga people were divided into multiple clans which were then further divided into chiefdoms in many years ago particularly from 18th to 20th century they were at war with not only their neighbors Massai people mainly for the area to feed their animal and ruling the place, but also with one another, each chiefdom had a distinctive territory along the southern, eastern and some part of western slopes of the mountain mainly sign of these territories were the rivers and small hills that used still today, at that time.
These areas were connected with footpaths and wooden bridges before being modernized later by the colonialists who succeeded in dominating the area (Germany) after the scramble and partition of Africa although it was not easy for Germany to dominate the Chagas land due to their experience in war and better strong fighter and they were real knew that if they lose the battle they would lose their land, it was a shame for them to lose any battle, however, these clans have continuously come together to form modern Chagas culture. Many years before a Missionary to Africa, particularly in the Tanganyika Chaga areas the Chagas had their own God trusted in him as a liberator and the power of sustenance he was known as “RUWA” which means GOD and believed RUWA was always living on Mount Kilimanjaro.
