3 Days Moshi Cycling Tour
Experience a Tanzania cultural cycling adventures in a small, beautiful town and peaceful villages of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, Moshi town has remarkable scenery and striking views of the mountain from every corner of the town. Moshi town sits at an altitude of about 900 meters and hence has cool weather for cyclists most of the year particularly in villages areas.
The tour will be Cycling through extensive farmlands cultivated by the Chaga people and explore the stunning landscapes and villages on the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro also leisurely rides to the markets and sugar cane plantations Rau forest and Materuni waterfalls and coffee tour, then Cycling To Chemka/Kikuletwa Hot Spring.
DAY 1: Moshi Town To Rau Forest and Its Near Area
In the morning after breakfast we will depart Moshi and cycle to Rau, our ride today will take us from the green southern of Moshi Town. Njoro Forest/Rau Forest is a unique forest located downtown south of Moshi town center, just outside Moshi Town.
Rau forest is home to the Black & White Colobus Monkey, insects, birds, antelopes, warthogs, dik-dik, etc. Also, more than 100 different bird and butterfly species are found in the Rau forest like the common mother of pearl, gold-handed forester, etc. Bees such as Apis mellifera adansonii, stingless bees (Mellipolina), and Forest Marsh Snake and is one of the few remaining groundwater forests.
It also comes out to a big rice field, where a man-made structure serves as an overlook. There is also a giant ancient tree in the forest which is part of the local lore. it is said that this tree is home to the ancestors and that in the past the colonialists cut it down, but the next day it was miraculously standing again.
Day 2: Moshi Town To Materuni Waterfalls
Materuni Waterfalls is an incredible booming waterfall located close to Moshi Town just 15 kilometers and a 1.5 - 2.5 hour ride from Moshi Town. Tourists will have the opportunity to stand underneath the waterfall, even jump off one and go swimming in the refreshing water, at the bottom of the waterfall through the typical river, vegetation in a neighborhood of coffee and banana trees all over round, The waterfalls is almost more than 80 meters high.
Please during heavy rainfall you should pay more attention while you swimming, or do not swim closer to the waterfalls because there is a small cave behind the waterfall where someone could get stuck and lots of crabs. Please be careful and do not go swimming close to the waterfall, especially for children.
When combined with a coffee tour in the village, it makes for a perfect day trip on your free day before or after your Kilimanjaro climb or wildlife safari. After swimming and taking off a break for lunch in this beautiful valley we will also visit an old Chagga cultural site village, and depending on the season, a coffee plantation, where we can roast, brew and drink our very own cup of fresh coffee and having the hot lunch there the choice is yours, There is the amazing experience to visit this place.
Day 3: Cycling To Chemka/Kikuletwa Hot Spring
Kikuletwa/Chemka Hot Springs gets its name from the water that bubbles in underground caves. Chemka is an incredible underground spring with crystal clear water bubbling from underground caves, giving the impression that it is boiling, hence the name "CHEMKA" The Swahili word means boil. The water of this spring is turquoise blue and crystal clear and invites us to a refreshing dive over 6 meters depth. The pool is surrounded by a semi-arid landscape and a sprawling fig tree.
Chemka is located close to Moshi town in a Rundugai village between Moshi and Arusha about 40 km from Moshi town. the area is the perfect resting place after too much stress from the Kilimanjaro climbs or once you get a free day in your hand make it useful by visiting Chemka and spending a day around the place before late in the evening start cycling back to Moshi, It's the perfect spot after a safari or Kilimanjaro climb or just to escape the city is about 80 km per day go and return Moshi town for next tour activities or going back home.
